OUT OF a whopping field of 25,000, Newcastle West’s Íde Nic Dhomhnaill won the Dublin half-marathon over the June Bank Holiday Weekend.

Wearing the 111 vest, the West Limerick AC member came home in a time 33.23 minutes, well over a minute ahead of runner-up Meghan Ryan (Dundrum South Dublin AC), with Maebh Richardson (Kilkenny City Harriers AC) in third.

Íde first got into running about ten years ago after moving from Limerick to Dublin.

But only over the past year or so is the schoolteacher and mother of two starting to bloom.

She won a couple of Cross Country National titles last year.

The marathon drew women from all four corners of Ireland, for what is known as the largest all-women event of its kind in the world.

Since the inaugural event in 1983, the mini-marathon has raised an estimated €250 million for charities across Ireland and is widely regarded as the most important single-day fundraising event in Ireland.
