Election candidate calls for Limerick Council to address hogweed issue

Hogweed on the banks of the River Shannon.

SINN Féin local election candidate in the Shannon electoral area (including Shannonbanks, Westbury, and Carraig Midhe) in the June 7 local elections, James Ryan, hit out at the growing hogweed issue along the riverbanks in Limerick and Clare.

Highlighting the fact the Clare County Council has said it will spray the plants along the banks this year, Mr Ryan called on Limerick City and County Council to do the same.

Mr Ryan said that “hogweed is a major contributor to the collapse of river banks along the Shannon”.
