WATERFORD woman Ger Duffy was named at this year’s winner of the Desmond O’Grady International Poetry Competition.
Ms Duffy’s winning poem was titled ‘The Afters’ and was selected by competition judge Arthur Broomfield, a poet and Beckett scholar, who commended the work highly for its mastery of language.
Other highly commended poets included Barbara Dunne, Peggy McCarthy, Lauren O’Donovan, and Marie Studer.
The competition has been run annually since 2012 as part of April Poetry Month by the Limerick Writer’s Centre and dedicated to late Limerick poet Desmond O’Grady.
