Waterford poet named winner of Desmond O’Grady Poetry Competition

Ger Duffy was named the winner of the Desmond O'Grady International Poetry Competition.

WATERFORD woman Ger Duffy was named at this yearโ€™s winner of the Desmond Oโ€™Grady International Poetry Competition.

Ms Duffyโ€™s winning poem was titled โ€˜The Aftersโ€™ and was selected by competition judge Arthur Broomfield, a poet and Beckett scholar, who commended the work highly for its mastery of language.

Other highly commended poets included Barbara Dunne, Peggy McCarthy, Lauren Oโ€™Donovan, and Marie Studer.

The competition has been run annually since 2012 as part of April Poetry Month by the Limerick Writerโ€™s Centre and dedicated to late Limerick poet Desmond Oโ€™Grady.
