INDEPENDENT local elections candidate for City North, Adam Kearney believes that the council needs new people with new ideas and energy to pursue a fundamental change of direction.
With over 20 years experience as a planning and development consultant, the Corbally man decided to run out of frustration.
“I want to use my experience to increase the supply of housing across the city,” he explained.
“For example, to seek variations to the existing Development Plan to ease restrictions around ancillary dwellings where practical, to encourage the regeneration of derelict buildings for cost rental or affordable homes, and to zone more lands specifically for the delivery of affordable housing.”
Mr Kearney says he would seek to initiate an action plan for the city centre that would reverse its decline.
“We need to get involved at a micro level and liaise with property owners to incentivise better quality retail and eradicate the anti-social behaviour that thrives in a low foot fall environment,” he said.
In relation to transport, he believes that Limerick needs to provide more smaller buses to serve densely populated areas and expedite the potential for commuter rail given the number of tracks accessing the city.
A 10-year permission for all potential commuter stations today, he maintains, would be better than the painstaking piecemeal approach currently adopted.
“As a country we are drowning in reports, studies, strategies and reviews that take years. We need to foster a more proactive approach and look to get things done.” he concluded.
