ALTHOUGH likely from a while back, Aisling Annacotty officially confirmed themselves as first-time Premier League Champions with a polished overall display in an impressive 3-1 win at Newport.
The winners, however, fell behind (to a goal by Brian O’Sullivan) in the early stages but were level by half-time through captain Adam Foley.
John Lysaght’s side tacked on a couple of goals in the closing half courtesy of Adam Costello and substitute Fiachra Cotter.
A highlight of the contest was a string of great saves by Aisling goalkeepeer Josh Coady.
Afterwards, Joe Pond of the Limerick District League presented the trophy to his fellow clubman Foley.
Aisling Annacotty: Josh Coady; Raid Mouras; Adam O’Regan; Kieran Jennings; Eliah Riordan; Leon Daly; Paul Brennan; Tom Kidd; Adam Foley; Theo Joyce; Adam Costello. Substitues: Kian Barry; Tom Kelly; Cathal Downes; Darren Coughlan.
Coonagh United and Charleville have been relegated from the top-tier.
Hyde Rangers are possibly Premier League bound next season and over the weekend were worthy 4-1 winners over League winners Janesboro at Jackman Park. For the Claret and Blues, a couple of the goals came from the boot of the League’s talented top scorer (now with and outstanding 35 goals in 2023/’04) Ben Kennedy.
Meanwhile, an attractive Desmond Cup Final involving Broadford United and Rathkeale is penciled-in for Mick Hanley Park, Askeaton on Friday (7pm).
