JOHN Kiely expressed satisfaction with Limerick’s 10-point win over Waterford in Sunday’s Munster Senior Hurling Championship bout at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.
Ahead of the fixture, the boss was all too well aware that defeat would have ended the ‘Drive for Five’ ambitions of his exemplary ambassadors.
After some poor executions, Limerick were still well in front at the interval.
The advantage was pared back to just a couple of points in the second-half before the Shannonsiders kicked for home in impressive fashion.
“Our performance levels are higher than what they were last year and the year before when you look at the data that’s there, which is the most important part of it for me, our average performance level is up and up a nice little bit,” he told reporters afterwards.
The manager added: “A lot was said about us needing to be knocked out in the Munster championship. We’re still here and we want to drive on. There’s a great sense of achievement having come through the round robin in the manner we have. There were dips here and there, but at the same time, we’re in a good place to push on.”
Limerick will now prepare to tackle Clare in the Munster Final at Semple Stadium, Thurles on Sunday June 9.
The glamour fixture is timed for 4pm.
