WILL the government extend to Limerick the online application service for GNIB (Garda National Immigration Bureau) cards?
That was the question Deputy Niall Collins had for Justice Minister Helen McEntee, amid reports of up to 16-week waits for non-EU/EEA students to receive appointments for residence cards.
Minister McEntee said that while she has “no role” in the scheduling of appointments, the Garda Commissioner is making “every effort” to reduce the waiting time for students in Limerick, including the assignment of an additional Garda member to the Limerick immigration office since January, bringing the number of officers locally to five.
An additional registration desk was also set up to allow extra registration capacity, “which is expected to further reduce waiting times”.
