Councillor calls for trees to be planted between rail line and Springfield Estate

Social Democrats councillor Elisa O'Donovan.

SOCIAL Democrats councillor Elisa O’Donovan wanted to know at this month’s Metropolitan District meeting of Limerick City and County Council if large trees are to be planted outside the boundary wall of the Irish Rail track in Springfield Estate in Dooradoyle.

The City West representative said that residents are now very exposed to the Limerick to Foynes railway track.

In response, Irish Rail said it is developing a re-planting plan with suitable native species along the railway corridor in consultation with their in-house ecology experts.

“The request to consider specific planting at Springfield Estate is noted and will be considered as part of the re-planting plan,” it said.
