THE STREETS of Limerick will experience the noise and colour of over 100 classic cars rolling into town this month as Retro Cannonball makes a stop on Shannonside.
The spectacle of over 100 vintage and classic cars will fill Limerick on May 24, as the Retro Cannonball run, a nationwide drive to raise funds for the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation, touches down in the Treaty.
The run will kick off from Thomond Park on May 24, with spectators getting the chance to see the cars up close and meet their owners before the drivers head off on their nationwide tour.
Leinster and Ireland rugby star Jamison Gibson-Park will also join on the day as an ambassador for Jack and Jill.
The convoy will include cars like the Lamborghini Diablo, Jaguar E-Type, BMW 635CSi, Mini Cooper, VW Beetle, and Ford Escort Cosworth, as well as American cars like the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette.
Mr Gibson-Park said that “as a dad of three healthy children, I massively appreciate how lucky we are as a family and can only begin to imagine the challenges faced by Jack and Jill families across Ireland. I am thrilled to lend my support to Jack and Jill and am excited to bring my kids along to see what promises to be a fantastic spectacle at Retro Cannonball at the end of May.”
Deirdre Walsh, CEO of Jack and Jill, added that the charity is “honoured that Cannonball Ireland have chosen to support Jack and Jill again in 2024.”
“Last year, our partnership raised an impressive €161,000, which translated into 8,944 hours of in-home nursing care and respite support for 534 families supported by Jack and Jill in 2023.
“We were overwhelmed by the support from families, volunteers, and corporate partners who came out along the route to help raise as much funds as possible, and to the drivers who brought so much fun factor to this exciting fundraiser.”
Starting at Thomond Park on May 24 at 9.30am, the convoy will travel along the Wild Atlantic Way, before finishing on May 25 in Mullingar, County Westmeath.
