CLIONA’S Foundation will stage its annual Inter-Firm Charity Race Day at Greenmount Park, Patrickswell, on Thursday May 23.
The Limerick-based charitable foundation is a national organisation that provides financial assistance directly to parents of children with a serious illness to help with non-medical expenses related to caring for the child.
The upcoming charitable occasion involves the local business community as nominators at the meeting, with the winning company earning a prize that consists of a race sponsorship and hospitality (for 30 people) at a fixture later in the year valued at €5,000.
Former Limerick hurling star and manager TJ Ryan, who is an ambassador for the charity, said: “I am delighted to be able to support the incredible work of Cliona’s Foundation, I have seen first-hand the impact the financial help has on families caring for a seriously sick child. We are looking forward to a fantastic day out at Limerick Racecourse in May.”
Co-founder and voluntary CEO Brendan Ring added: “The cost of living is crippling families who are already devastated by their child’s illness.”
“We have to do all we can to help them. It has never been more urgent to work even harder for the forgotten families Cliona’s work with.
“Simply by supporting the race day and enjoying a fantastic day out you are helping families who are in a real crisis. So I am encouraging everyone to join us on May 23rd for a special event and extend thanks to our corporate sponsors who make it happen.”
Cliona’s Foundation expects at least 200 families will apply for financial assistance this year and will need to raise a minimum of €500,000 to meet these applications.
The foundation was established in memory of Cliona Ring, who died aged 15 in 2006, and was established by her parents, Brendan and Terry.
