EMMET Scanlan is a Limerick-born and based singer and songwriter who works with the band What The Good Thought – an international group with members from Sweden, England and New Zealand. Their style has strong elements of folk, soul and blues with Emmet’s astute lyrics always to the fore.
Emmet has released the lead song from his new EP, ‘Every Given Day’. The title track is a poignant homage to Emmet’s little girl, and the positive effect that children have on their parents, particularly on dads, a topic not often spoken about, let alone commemorated in song in Ireland.
For the song, Emmet has also created a video of footage of Dads and their small treasures, following a call out on radio and social media, which had great uptake.
Emmet was born and bred in Newcastle West in Limerick but a passion for music drew him to arts-mecca Galway, where the band was formed in 2005. The aim was to create a distinctive sound, incorporating many genres and musicians from different backgrounds.
Emmet has made good use of his many contacts to create a music festival in his hometown. Newcastle West Music Trail Festival, now in its second year, brought Paddy Casey, Niall McCabe, Niamh Nolan and Barbershop Quartet to NCW in April.
Emmet Scanlan will perform in Dolans on Saturday May 18 as a special guest with Duke Special.
