AN EAST Limerick community development project is looking for early adopters to trial a new heat extraction project.
Ballyhoura Development is leading a new energy project called AquaCOM, aiming to enable communities to harvest heat energy in a new way.
The project uses aquathermal energy technologies, which enable the extraction of heat from cold water sources, such as rivers, lakes, and canals. This heat can then be processed through heat pumps to support local or district heat networks.
Ballyhoura Development is searching for three communities in Limerick who would like to be involved in the trial of the new energy system.
The AquaCOM project is a joint initiative with nine European project partners in Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, and aims to create a model for energy communities that can be easily replicated in different local areas.
The early adopter communities will be able to visit the partner sites in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France to see first-hand what other communities in Europe are doing.
The early adopters will also get to meet and work with others across Europe and share their knowledge and experience.
The call for early adopters is open until May 24, and anyone who is interested in getting involved or getting more information can contact Jim Pitcher Farrell in Ballyhoura Development on 086 041 6861, or [email protected].
