AS THE Treaty continues to make history, the first live and in-person debate for candidates seeking to be elected Limerick’s first directly-elected mayor will be held on May 21.

The Millennium Theatre at the Moylish Campus of the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) will play host as the mayoral hopefuls take the gloves off and go head-to-head in their first-ever live debate.

The debate/hustings event is being organised by the Limerick Post, Limerick Chamber, and TUS, and will see the candidates hoping to help shape the future of Limerick over the next five years answer the questions most important to its people before they go to the polls on June 7.

Proceedings on the night will be moderated by Irish Times political editor Pat Leahy, and will kick off from 6.30pm on May 21, with the debate starting from 7pm.

A statement from the Limerick Post, Limerick Chamber, and TUS said that the aim of the first live mayoral debate is to provide a platform for candidates to articulate their visions for Limerick and address crucial issues ranging from economic development and infrastructure to social and environmental sustainability.
