THE UNIVERSITY of Limerick’s (UL) annual literary journal celebrated its 10th anniversary with the launch of this year’s edition.
The Ogham Stone, UL’s literary journal, was launched on April 18 by Roy Galvin, Ireland’s first male lead ballet dancer.
Mr Galvin read an excerpt from his upcoming memoir ‘In Pursuit of a Normal Life’ at the journal’s launch.
The theme of this year’s edition is ‘recollection’, with Mr Galvin’s memoir recalling details and stories of his first trip to San Francisco, coming from an Ireland where he felt he couldn’t be himself.
Authors Roisin Meaney, Fí Scarlett, and Sarah Gilmartin also attended the launch on the night and read parts of their short stories featured in the journal.
The Ogham Stone is produced by students on the MA in English and the MA in Creative Writing at UL.
Each issue showcases a number of short stories, poetry, flash fiction, and creative non-fiction by some emerging and established Irish writers, as well as contributors from further afield.
First launched in 2014 by a small group of students, The Ogham Stone has grown each year, with students, alumni, and staff of UL also contributing their stories to the journal each year.
