TESCO Ireland has secured planning permission from Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) to expand its trading area in the Crescent Shopping Centre.
The grocery retailer applied to the council earlier this year seeking to expand its current store into a vacant crèche unit next door.
The approved plans will see the alcohol sales area of the store be relocated into the former crèche building and another adjoining vacant store.
Documents submitted by agents for Tesco Ireland to LCCC as part of the planning application say that the plans form part of the British retailer’s plans to upgrade and refurbish its estate of stores across Ireland.
The plans mark a “significant investment” in the Crescent Shopping Centre, the agents say, and will provide “an enhanced customer experience”.
“The superstore in the Crescent Shopping Centre is the final store in their portfolio to be refurbished,” planning documents add.
Tesco is set to open the doors to its newest outlet in Limerick this week.
The company announced it would take over a unit at Watch House Cross Shopping Centre following the departure of Iceland last year.
Tesco’s website says that the new Kileely store will open on Thursday morning (April 18) at 8am.
