Lifelong friendships made at The Creative Show

Find out what happens to Jill and Jane who are at the cinema but are ruining it for everyone else, constantly talking and answering their mobile phones

The Creative Show presents ‘A Night at the Cinema,’ written and directed by Myles Breen taking place on Thursday, April 11, and Friday, April 12, at 7.30pm at Belltable.

This is the twelfth edition of The Creative Show, returning once again to the city centre venue.

Over the past decade, Limerick Youth Theatre and AVISTA have collaborated to produce this annual event, crafting a new script from scratch each year and involving a multitude of performers including singers, dancers, musicians, and actors from school choirs, arts organisations, and independent practitioners.

“It takes three months of laughter, sweat and tears to make this happen but what is truly remarkable about the collaboration is its ability to bring out the best in all who participate,” say organisers.

‘A Night at the Cinema’ begins with Jill and Jane, two characters whose antics at the cinema disrupt the experience for everyone else. Transported onto the screen by the guardian of the cinema, they must navigate the land of film to escape, encountering Bond villains, vampires, squabbling couples, and spontaneous musical numbers along the way.

Angie Smalis, Artistic Director of LYT, expresses her excitement for The Creative Show, calling it the highlight of LYT’s yearly programming.

“I am privileged to be able to co-produce this innovative and inclusive project and be part of the creative process by choreographing its dance elements. It is a hands-on process and we all learn from each other. Not only has the professional team been focusing on creating and presenting an artistic work, they have been extremely generous sharing their knowledge, expertise and resources.  A Night at the Cinema is my twelfth personal reminder of why I chose a career in the performing arts, it challenges and teaches all involved to be patient, understanding, inclusive and respectful of people’s abilities and needs. We all look forward to welcoming you to Belltable and we hope that you will dance and sing along!’

Donal Sherlock, Manager of AVISTA, praises the ongoing dedication of the production team and the increasing recognition and participation from the local community. He emphasises the personal growth, confidence-building, and artistic development fostered by The Creative Show over its twelve-year tenure.

Donal and Angie added: ‘We are privileged to be able to witness the personal growth of everyone involved, the lifelong friendships that are developed and the enhanced quality of life that results from being part of an artistic family. The Creative Show is much more than a performance; it is an opportunity to belong.’
