ATHLUNKARD Street will be celebrating 200 years since its foundation later this month.
To mark the occasion, a 200-page book by Denis O’Shaughnessy, entitled The Story of Athlunkard Street, 1824-2024, will be launched on April 19 in St Mary’s RFC clubhouse at 8pm.
Other major celebratory plans include a gala concert in St Mary’s Church (April 25 at 7.30pm), and a commemorative mass at 11.30am on Sunday April 28, celebrated by Bishop Brendan Leahy, followed by band parade and street party and barbecue in Athlunkard Boat Club immediately afterwards.
