Garryowen seek AIL promotion

GARRYOWEN are through to a play-off semi-final spot in Division 1B of the All-Ireland League.

In the concluding round, Garryowen defeated Highfield 31-10 at Dooradoyle.

Bryan Fitzgerald scored two tries for the home side, while Colm Hogan and Cian Hurley grabbed one each. Jack Oliver kicked two conversions.

Garryowen will be away to Old Wesley in the semi-final.

In the 1A relegation semi-final, Shannon will host Old Belvedere.

Shannon posted a big 33-17 win at UCD, helped by a couple of tries apiece by Jade Kriel and Josh Costello.

Elsewhere, Young Munster brought their campaign to a finish with a 29-24 home defeat to Lansdowne.

In 2A, Old Crescent’s hopes of a play-off place came unstuck after they lost away to MU Barnhall,  26-17.

UL Bohemian will be involved in the Division 2A-Division 2B play-offs where they will have home advantage against Sligo, after they lost at home to champions Nenagh Ormond 25-16.

In 2C, Bruff made certain of their place in the  play-offs after a last minute try by Kieran O’Dwyer earned them a 19-14 thrilling home win against Clonmel. Tries from Brendan Gleeson and Shane Duggan, both converted by Paul Collins had Bruff 14-0 ahead at half time. Clonmel came back to level only for O’Dwyer to come up trumps.

Bruff are now away to Galwegians.

In the Women’s All Ireland League, leaders UL Bohemian lost their unbeaten record,  away to second placed Railway Union, 43-22.
