Mother Mac’s Public House named Innovator of the Year at regional Restaurant Association Awards

Proprietor James McMahon with the Innovator of the Year Award.

LIMERICK bar Mother Mac’s Public House emerged as a winner at the Munster Regional Irish Restaurant Association Awards held at The Great Southern Hotel in Killarney last week.

Mother Macs Public House were awarded the prestigious title of Innovator of the Year. James McMahon, owner Mother Macs, describes the excitement and anticipation. “The event is held annually to celebrate excellence and innovation across the Munster region.  It really is a big deal and it goes without saying that Limerick was heavily represented”.

Mother Macs Public House, located on high street in Limericks city centre, have been partnering with local food producers to offer unique food and whiskey pairings beyond the normal cheese and charcutier.

The innovative collaboration with foods is, according to James, key to their success at the awards. “High Street offers a wide selection of ethnic food businesses and we have paired with our neighbours to offer unique whiskey experiences” he goes on to explain

“We have paired Whiskey with Lebanese cuisine, Sushi, Mexican food & Handmade Chocolate”.  According to James the success of the whiskey tastings has led to new employment, upskilling of the staff and “A new Coat” for Peggy’s Whiskey Parlour.
