AONTÚ Local Elections candidate for City East, Eric Nelligan, is calling on the outgoing Minister for Further and Higher Education, Simon Harris TD, to revise and update the requirements needed to apply for the SUSI third level grant for young adults going to college.
The call comes amid what Mr Nelligan considers “unfair” rules that say that all household income for families applying to the grant must be assessed, including both students and parents.
“We’ve a situation where students work part-time in a shop during the summer, their income is taken into consideration as well,” he said.
