JP MCMANUS of Martinstown had his famed South Liberties GAA hurling silks carried to victory on no less than five occasions at the Cheltenham Racing Festival, thus helping the hugely successful businessman to the Champion Owner title.

The title was wrapped-up courtesy of a closing day double with Majborough and the appropriately named Limerick Lace.

Along with the wins, there were plenty of other podium finishes for McManus. Over the years, the Limerickman has won close on 80 times at the Festival. His first was with Mister Donovan way back in 1982.

Post-Cheltenham, trainer Charles Byrnes of Ballingarry and Athlacca jockey Ray Barron teamed-up to win the Bumper at Thurles with Lady Of The Locke.

Meanwhile, there’s an attractive seven race card at Limerick’s Greenmount Park, Patrickswell on Sunday next, 1.45pm onwards
