THE FINAL legislative hurdle has been cleared and now Limerick will go to the polls this June to vote for its first ever directly elected mayor.
President Michael D Higgins signed the necessary bill into law this Wednesday afternoon, with the bill having passed through both Oireachtas houses last week.
The vote is expected to be held between June 7 and 9, at the same time as the local and European elections.
A statement from the President’s office confirmed today that, “having considered the Local Government (Mayor of Limerick) and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill, 2023, the President has signed the Bill and it has accordingly become law”.
