FIANNA Fáil councillor Catherine Slattery asked Limerick City and County Council to consider the installation of flashing lights at the pedestrian crossing on Hyde Road (located across from Hyde Villas), as an additional road safety measure.
According to Cllr Slattery, cars do not realise it is a crossing until they are too close to stop.
In response, Dan Lavin of Active Travel said that this raised crossing was installed as an additional uncontrolled crossing following a number of requests from local residents.
“The raised crossing acts as a traffic calming measure while also giving pedestrians a safe opportunity to cross Hyde Road.
“There are further controlled pedestrian crossings locations along Hyde Road,” he said.
