Two killed in tragic car crash in County Limerick

A FATAL car crash in County Limerick yesterday evening (Tuesday) left two dead and two injured, with Gardaí performing a technical examination on the road this morning.

The incident took place on the N69 at Ballyengland outside Askeaton at around 7.25pm last night when a car collided with a wall.

Two passengers in the car, a man in his 20s and a man in his late teens, were killed in the crash. The driver and another passenger, both aged in their late teens are currently receiving treatment for what Gardaí describe as non-life-threatening injures.

The bodies of the two deceased have been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem is due to take place.

No other vehicles were involved in the tragic incident.

The stretch of the N69 road remains closed this morning with diversions in place, as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators perform a technical examination of the scene.

The two deaths bring the number of fatalities on Irish roads so far this year to 31.

Gardaí have asked any witnesses or road users who may have been in the area at the time, or who may have dashcam footage, to make themselves known to Askeaton Garda Station on 061 601 630 or any Garda Station.
