ATHEA native Kathleen Barrett has confirmed that she will be contesting the upcoming local elections for Fianna Fáil in Newcastle West.
With a background as a farmer, horticulturist, and city gardener for Limerick City and Council’s Parks Department, Ms Barrett says she is looking forward to the upcoming contest and is excited at the opportunity to represent her local community.
Speaking about her decision to enter politics and run as a candidate for Fianna Fáil, Ms Barrett said: “I have always been a hard worker, motivated by the chance to improve circumstances wherever I can. Throughout my career, I have always enjoyed working with people who are optimistic about the future and work passionately on progressing their ideas and beliefs on improving the community.”
The election hopeful believes that Fianna Fáil’s policies offer the best way forward for her community. She said that, during the course of her work with the council, she has seen firsthand the advancements in the quality of roads, greenways, and parks across the city and county.
“The hard work in these areas that is carried out on a daily basis is strongly supported by Fianna Fáil,” Ms Barrett insists.
“As a longtime resident of West Limerick, every day I see the challenges that face our community’s workers and residents. We all love our area, but we also recognise there remains a lot of work to be done and there are always issues to be addressed.
“I am keenly aware of the basic needs and issues faced by people in the local area thanks to my extensive experience from working and living here. I am confident that I can make a positive impact representing people from the community as their representative on the Council and shape a better future for Newcastle West,” she concluded.
