GARDAÍ have appealed for witnesses to an assault in which a man sustained serious head injuries in Limerick City in the early hours of Sunday morning (February 18).

According to Gardaí, a man in his 20s was rushed from scene of the incident by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick and later transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH), where he is being treated for “serious injuries”.

The man is understood to have suffered a blow to the back of his head when it impacted with a footpath after he was allegedly punched in the face by another man.

It’s understood the assault may have been linked to an incident involving a woman being pushed to the ground outside of a pub on Shannon Street.
