SOME of Ireland’s leading climate ambassadors and environmentalists will be in the Treaty City on February 23 to speak at the ‘Nights Candles are Burnt Out’ Culture and Climate Conference, organised by The Hunt Museum in partnership with Mary Immaculate College.
The conference is an extension of The Hunt Museum’s current exhibition which is focused on the pioneering spirit of Ireland’s drive towards renewable energy resources, and has aims to generate positive action related to the 2021 Climate Action Plan.
Keynote speakers at the conference include American-Irish environmental scientist Dr Cara Augustenborg, rewilding expert Eoghan Daltun, and Irish stand-up comedian, bestselling author, and award-winning broadcaster Colm O’Regan.
They will be joined at the one-day conference by speakers from business, the media, policy-making, and academia to discuss climate issues, challenges, and solutions.
The conference, along with its accompanying seminar series, is open to the public and has been designed to encourage greater engagement amongst community groups and individuals in climate action.
Through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and a ‘World Café’, the conference, according to organisers, will delve into the strategies and actions needed to help Limerick and Ireland achieve its targets and commitments from the 2021 Climate Action Plan to halve greenhouse emissions by 2030 to achieving net zero by 2050.
The Hunt Museum is also hosting a Climate and Culture Action seminar series in the run up to the event.
