Irish Chamber Orchestra: Unwrapping Bach

THE Irish Chamber Orchestra will bring the music of J.S. Bach to the University Concert Hall on Thursday March 7 with Norwegian Violinist, Henning Kraggerud.
“Henning has an extraordinary gift that conveys a profound sense of communication and discovery in his concerts. Join us for an intimate evening as he embraces the brilliance of Bach,” says Charlotte Eglington of ICO.
Enjoy the Goldberg Variations arranged for strings like never before, as Kraggerud puts his own stamp on this iconic work. Explore the mystery with his words and revealing demonstrations. A lesson in wonder, experience the music turning from melancholy to joy, with moments of thrilling brilliance from one of the most influential figures in music. After the interval, Henning spreads the magic of these brilliant works into another unexpected place as he performs the complete Variations.
In his arrangement, Henning uses Bach’s own corrections and additions from his first edition, ignoring additions of supplementary notes and the simplification of certain passages found in other arrangements. The result is extraordinary, lush, and refreshing.
Widely regarded as one of Norway’s finest exports, Kraggerud’s global reach as an artist is a result of his versatility and passion for music, as well as the genuine quality to his playing and the beauty of his performances. His teaching and educational writings provide fascinating insights into his multi-faceted approach to music-making, while his composing, arranging, and improvising recall the spirit of composers such as Suk and Ysaÿe.
