Man arrested in connection with stabbing in Limerick City

A MAN was being questioned today (Saturday) by Gardaí in connection with a stabbing incident during a violent clash between a number of people on O’Connell Street in Limerick City last night.

One man was stabbed three times in the violent incident but was not seriously injured, a reliable source confirmed.

Gardaí were investigating whether a blade or a broken glass bottle was used during the incident.

Video footage and pictures of the alleged melee were shared across social media last night.

A Garda spokesman said that “Gardaí are investigating a violent disorder incident that occurred at approximately 9.40pm on Friday 9th February 2024 on O’Connell Street in Limerick City”.

“Two males received non-life threatening injuries during the course of this incident and attended at University Hospital Limerick.

“A man in his 30s has been arrested as part of this investigation and he is currently detained at a Garda station in Limerick city under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.”
