MARY Immaculate College were the first local side to secure a place in the last four of the Fitzgibbon Cup (Colleges’ Hurling) on Wednesday.
On their home pitch, Mary I accounted for rivals TUS Mid West, 1-25 to 1-17.
Devon Ryan (Tipperary) hit nine points for Jamie Wall’s side, while other significant scorers were Shane Meehan of Clare with 1-2 and Kilmallock’s Shane O’Brien (0-4).
Holders University of Limerick (UL) impressed in their quarter-final defeat of UCC, 1-21 to 0-16, at Maguire’s Field.
UL had trailed by a couple of points at the interval.
Gearóid O’Connor of Tipperary top-scored with 0-8 for the winners, for whom Doon’s Adam English (0-4), Aidan O’Connor (Ballybrown), Paddy O’Donovan (Effin) and Brian O’Grady (Kilteely/Dromkeen) chipped-in with scores.
UL are managed once more by Brian Ryan, South Liberities.
The semi-final pairings are: UL v University of Galway and Mary I v SETU Waterford.
