Councillor asks local authority if it plans to move bus stop following fatal hit and run

The late Joe Drennan was killed in the fatal hit and run on October 13 last year.

A LOCAL councillor asked at a recent council meeting whether there were any plans to relocate a bus stop on the Dublin Road where a University of Limerick student lost his life last October.

Fianna Fáil councillor Joe Pond asked if Limerick City and County Council and Bus Éireann are considering relocating the bus stop located on the Dublin Road in Castletroy where the late University of Limerick journalism student, Joe Drennan, lost his life in a tragic hit and run incident.

Executive Engineer for the council’s Active Travel department, John O’Callaghan, said the council is not aware of any plans to relocate the bus stop.

“However, we are considering the inclusion of this bus stop as part of the 2024 Bus Shelter Enabling Works Programme, which requires approval from the National Transport Authority.”

“As part of the proposed works, a concrete footpath build-out is being considered along with the installation of a new bus shelter.”
