Top garden fencing questions answered

Rite Choice Fencing

WITH a comprehensive range of fence panels available, selecting garden fencing isn’t always an easy decision and there are a huge number of factors to be taken into account before getting into the installment or replacement process.

To shed a bit of light in the subject, garden fencing expert Pat O’Donnell, of Rite Choice Fencing, has taken the time to answer a couple of the most common questions he hears.

How important is weatherproofing for extreme weather conditions? (Strong winds, heavy rain, occasional storms and the like)

You might want to think about trellis top panels, for example, and not exceed 1.8m high, as the wind can easily pass through these.

However, often it’s just a matter of ensuring that you’ve got a solid foundation for your fence (one that’s not overly wet or peaty ground) and that you’ve got heavy-duty fence posts installed at the correct depth.

What is the installation timeframe from order to fit?

Generally we advise lead time to be between four to six weeks.

Can I fit it myself?

Yes. Although the two-year fitting guarantee we provide when fitted by our franchisees does not apply to self builds.

How long does the average fence last?

Colourfence offers a 25-year guarantee on fence materials, and two years on fitting, providing installations are undertaken by ourselves and the fence maintained in accordance with our specifications against the paint peeling, blistering, rusting, and corrosion.

How do you maintain colourfence to ensure long life?

A regular hose-down will keep the paint finish in good condition. Keep the bottom rail free of dirt and debris to ensure the drainage holes are not blocked and water can run away.

The fences should be clear of the ground at all times. Avoid over-spraying garden chemicals on to the fence.

How much does it cost?

We provide a free site survey. To view our range and get a quote, please check our website on colourfence.ie/franchise/limerick.
