INDEPENDENT councillor for Limerick City West, Fergus Kilcoyne, announced this week that he has joined the Fianna Fáil party.
According to Cllr Kilcoyne, the invitation came from Fianna Fáil Minister of State, Deputy Niall Collins, who approached him with the proposition.
After careful consideration, Cllr Kilcoyne, who had been serving as an Independent representative since 2019 in Patrickswell village, made the decision to join the party.
He told the Limerick Post that Minister Collins recognises his dedication to his constituents and believes that, with the support of Fianna Fail, he can achieve even more for the area.
Before making this political move, Cllr Kilcoyne held meetings with his supporters, canvassers, and his immediate family, who all expressed their support for his decision.
Cllr Kilcoyne has been actively working for the past five years to address local issues and considers it a privilege to serve his community as a public representative.
He and his supporters believe that by joining Fianna Fáil, he can make an even greater impact in the Patrickswell, Clarina, Mungret, Raheen, Dooradoyle, and city environs areas.
As a member of Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Kilcoyne has recently put forward a motion advocating for the installation of sound barriers along the railway line through Dooradoyle and Patrickswell, connecting to the new deep-sea port in Foynes. He says he believes that this measure would help mitigate noise pollution for residents in these areas.
