LIMERICK City and County Council will host a workshop to explore the importance of local wetlands on human wellbeing to mark World Wetlands Day 2024.
The event will take place at Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel in Adare on February 1, and will feature a talk by Nuala Madigan, chief executive of the Irish Peatland Conservation Council.
The theme of this year’s event, ‘Wetlands and Human Wellbeing’, aims to spotlight how all aspects of human wellbeing – physical, mental and environmental – are tied to the health of the world’s wetlands.
Wetlands hold and provide most of our freshwater. They naturally filter pollutants, leaving water that’s safe to drink.
Attendees of the workshop can discover the importance of preserving and restoring these biodiverse ecosystems that underpin human wellbeing with expert speakers from the Irish Peatland Conservation Council, the Limerick branch of Birdwatch Ireland, and the South East Region of the Regional Local Authorities Waters Programme.
The event will take place on February 1 at the Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel in Adare from 7pm.
