Post van recovered but mail still missing as Gardaí appeal to those who didn’t get Christmas cards in Limerick

Limerick Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Ber Leetch.

GARDAÍ in Limerick have asked anyone who didn’t get a postcard over Christmas to come forward, as investigations into the contents of a stolen An Post van are still ongoing.

Gardaí in Limerick have issued a public appear for assistance after an An Post delivery van was stolen in the North Circular Road area just before Christmas.

According to Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry Street Garda Station, the An Post van was making deliveries at Old Westfields on the North Circular Road in Limerick City at 8.39am on the morning on December 20, 2023, when it was stolen by an unknown opportunistic thief.

“The van was stolen while the An Post worker was delivering mail to a house,” Sergeant Leetch said.

Gardaí working out of Mayorstone Garda Station recovered the An Post vehicle, but “it was subsequently discovered that a number of bundles of mail had been stolen from the van”.
