Bateman Cup sorrow for Young Munster

YOUNG Munster and Terenure served up a mighty tussle in the Bateman Cup final at Lakelands Park, one which was secured on a 22-15 scoreline by the holders.

The decisive tries came in the closing 20 minutes for the winners courtesy of Jordan Coghlan and Aran Egan.

Former Cookie Conor Phillips crossed in the early stages to put the home side on course for a 10-8 interval lead. Seán Rigney drove over from a maul for Young Munster, for whom Shane O’Leary landed a quality penalty.

The visitors were dealt a blow with the dismissal of their number 8 Fintan Coleman nearing half-time.

Still, Young Munster remained right in the hunt and took the lead when Ireland Under-20 star Ruadhán Quinn burrowed over, with O’Leary adding the extras.
