AN increase in mental health funding is urgently required, according to local Independent TD Richard O’Donoghue.
His call comes on the back of a report by the European Commission which found that over 40 per cent of people in Ireland face significant barriers when seeking essential mental health care.
‘This is double the EU average and underscores the immediate need for practical reforms in Ireland’s mental health service provisions,” Deputy O’Donoghue stated.
“The EU survey shows that Ireland has the EU’s third-highest rate of emotional and psychosocial problems, with over 60 per cent of our citizens facing issues like depression or anxiety in the past year.’
“Too many Limerick citizens silently battle emotional and psychosocial issues, and without adequate care, their suffering persists.”
