LIMERICK people in food poverty have received 5,000 donated meals this year as party of a joined charitable initiative.
The meals have been donated to families and individuals through charities such an Novas thanks to a partnership between Deliveroo and food charity FoodCloud.
The partnership began in 2022 and aims donate half a million meals to FoodCloud ‘s network of over 650 community and voluntary groups by 2024.
Limerick people have helped to support the campaign by donating when paying for their orders on the Deliveroo app.
An in-app charity donation option allows people to round up the cost of their order to the nearest euro, with all proceeds going to FoodCloud.
For every €1 raised, 3.2 meals are provided to people experiencing food insecurity.
One of the local charities being supported by the joint initiative is Novas, an organisation that supports homeless and socially excluded individuals and families by providing social housing for low-income families and single adults in local communities.
Fionualla O’Brien from Novas said: “The partnership between Deliveroo Ireland and FoodCloud has been a welcome addition for everyone here at Novas. The meals that we’ve received through this programme have been a lifeline to many people in our community and we thank Deliveroo Ireland and FoodCloud for this brilliant support.”
Helen Maher, regional Director of Deliveroo Ireland, said: “We’re pleased to have achieved the significant milestone of providing more than 5,000 meals for vulnerable people across Limerick. We couldn’t have achieved this without the incredible support of our customers, partners and riders. Deliveroo’s commitment to supporting Irish charities remains firm and we will continue to offer our support to local organisations by donating meals and raising funds for groups like Novas.”
Angela Ruttledge, head of public engagement at FoodCloud, added: “It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with Deliveroo Ireland on its Full Life Campaign, promoting awareness of food insecurity across the country. By mobilising its customers to donate, Deliveroo Ireland is helping to ensure vulnerable people have access to healthy and nutritious meals.”
