NEWMARKET-on-Fergus amateur rider Thomas Costello rode his first winner on the racecourse as Asian Master took the two-mile maiden hurdle at Thurles on Sunday.
The outing provided the Willie Mullins stable with a 1-2 as the 7/1 chance got the better of the Paul Townend-ridden even money favourite Jimmy Du Seuil by three-parts of a length.
It was a first ride for Costello, who has two point-to-point winners to his name, against professional jockeys.
Earlier in the weekend, Rathkeale’s Calum Hogan rode his third winner when taking the eight-furlong apprentice handicap on the Michael McCullagh-trained Run The Jewels at Dundalk.
The 12/1 shot led at the furlong pole and came home a length and three-parts ahead of 11/2 chance Monzoon.
Meanwhile, there’s inside a week to the start of the Mr. Binman Christmas Racing Festival at Limerick.
