Paolo Nutini returns to Limerick for Thomond Park headliner

PAOLO Nutini has announced his only Irish date in 2024 with a stadium show at Thomond Park, Limerick on Saturday July 13. Tickets from €53.85 go on sale this Wednesday December 13 via ticketmaster.ie

Paolo played two sold out nights Live at the Big Top, Limerick Milk Market in August 2022, becoming one of the year’s hottest tickets, (he could have sold out many more nights there) and headlined Electric Picnic last September.

Over the past eight years, Paolo Nutini has painstakingly developed his distinctive musical language. Following the triumph of his 2014 album “Caustic Love,” which secured his second consecutive chart-topping success and marked a significant breakthrough in the US, Paolo uncovered that the musical palette he had assembled in the transitional phase between his late 20s and early 30s had yet to find full expression in his creative endeavours.

“Last Night In The Bittersweet” materialises as an album that reshapes previous experiences and reimagines familiar symbols. In its domain, the vibrant hues of a neon motel sign or a snippet of dialogue from a film carry as much narrative weight as impassioned pleas and poignant farewells. The album seamlessly melds Can-inspired motorik rock compositions with energetic mini-epics and self-contained, hook-laden tracks that could be fittingly tagged with weighty descriptors like Motown, Stiff, or Sun.

Paolo Nutini, the artist who seized the coveted #1 position on the album charts with both “Sunny Side Up” and “Caustic Love,” boasts an impressive track record, accumulating 8 million global album sales, 8 million single sales, and 1.5 billion global streams. As an Ivor Novello awardee and multiple BRIT Award nominee, he has garnered 18 Platinum certifications in the UK alone. Paolo has headlined major festivals, including Glastonbury’s Other Stage and Benicàssim, and commanded massive arena shows at London’s O2 and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.

Spanning an expansive 70 minutes, “Last Night In The Bittersweet” transcends genres, traversing from classic rock to post-punk to hypnotic Krautrock. It stands as Paolo’s most profound, diverse, accomplished, and ultimately satisfying offering to date. The propulsive Motorik rhythms in the track “Lose It” evoke echoes of early ’70s German bands like Can and Neu!, showcasing Paolo’s evolving approach, particularly as he delves deeper into bass guitar composition. On the flip side, “Through The Echoes” emerges as a timeless classic in the tradition of Ben E. King and Otis Redding, highlighting Nutini’s vocal prowess, the very talent that initially caught Atlantic’s attention.

In collaboration with Dani Castelar and Gavin Fitzjohn, Paolo Nutini assumed the role of producer for “Last Night In The Bittersweet,” creating a magnum opus that not only mirrors his distinctive vision but also incorporates select co-writing contributions from members of his live band.

Paolo Nutini plays Thomond Park, Limerick on Saturday July 13.
