NEARLY 30 years on and legendary jockey/trainer Enda Bolger, who hosted the launch of the upcoming Mr. Binman Christmas Limerick Racing Festival at Howardstown House in Bruree, has fond memories of a landmark personal victory at the meeting.
He recalled: “I remember in 1994, Jonjo O’Neill sent Front Line over for the Murphy’s Irish Stout Novice Chase as it was then, and I rode him. We thought that he had a chance too, but I remember this horse running away from me doing a half-speed.
“That horse was the future Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Imperial Call.”
Added Bolger: “It’s great that the race is a Grade 1 race now, it was a massive boost for the racecourse when the race was awarded Grade 1 status in 2018.”
“There have been some top-class winners of the race, Sir Des Champs, Outlander, Bellshill, Colreevy, Gerri Colombe as well as Imperial Call and Gilgamboa.”
