A LIMERICK man who has given years of dedicated voluntary service has been honoured with a prestigious Irish Red Cross award.

Tommy Gray, an Irish Red Cross volunteer with the West Limerick Branch of the organisation, picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Red Cross National Volunteer Awards at a ceremony held in Croke Park on November 11.

Tommy has been a member of the Irish Red Cross for 28 years and is currently the chairperson of the West Limerick branch. He was influential in supporting the building of new training rooms for the branch and has dedicated countless hours of volunteering to support the organisation.

He’s deeply involved in the local community and organises Christmas parties for residents of St Ita’s Hospital in Newcastle West and regular fundraising events in the community.

Tommy qualified as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in 2011 and continued to practice as an EMT until 2022. He looks forward to continuing volunteering with the organisation for many years to come.
