Warm is what’s in for winter

November is a huge period of transition for our wardrobes, moving away from the autumnal looks and towards wintery outfit styles.

With this transition, it can be hard to know what trends are still ‘in’ compared with this time last year and what to bring forward from your autumn wardrobe to the new winter season. To help you out this winter, I’ve compiled a list of some of this year’s biggest winter fashion trends.

Red revolution
If 2023 has a colour, it’s red. Red is always a hit this time of year as you can move from your autumnal reds and oranges to brighter shades for the Christmas season.

This year however, red has been making an even bigger statement – clothes, bags, shoes, jackets, nail colour, you name it, red has taken over. Embracing the red revolution is a great way to keep a pop of colour in your wardrobe and while repurposing some of those autumnal tones.

Personally, I love the styling of a red bag and shoes with an otherwise neutral outfit. Red leather jackets are another twist that I am loving. There’s so much you can do with styling this colour and it looks set to keep dominating as a red hot trend this winter.

Fur and sherpa revival
The comeback of fur and sherpa this year has been a powerful one, and I am loving the luxurious and cosy revival. From runways to street styles, these textures have made a big return.

Faux fur coats and jackets, in particular, are making a bold statement while offering a cruelty-free alternative that doesn’t compromise on style.

If a fur coat isn’t your thing, try incorporating fur into accessories like hats, gloves, boots, or even bags. Sherpa pieces are also reclaiming their status as winter essentials, providing unparalleled warmth and comfort. Whether lining the interior of a denim jacket or adorning the collar of a chic coat, sherpa accents are bringing a sense of casual elegance this winter.

Knitted vests are best
Knitted vests are a trend we have seen a lot of over the past year and they look set to stay this winter.

The knitted vest trend gives you the opportunity to incorporate a new style of knit into your wardrobe without feeling like you’re wearing the same jumper all winter. The great thing about the knitted vest is the versatility both as fashion and practical wear. Layer over a shirt with a pair of smart trousers for a stylish yet professional office look or lose the layers and pair a sleeveless vest with a mini skirt and boot for an easy on trend look.

Lounging around
Lounge wear is something you can expect to see quite a bit of this year, particularly co-ord sets. There’s nothing better than bundling yourself up in a big jumper over the winter months and these lounge wear sets are not just about comfort; they’re a fashion statement that seamlessly combines relaxation with a touch of elegance.

Whether it’s a hoodie paired with matching tracksuit, an oversized jumper with matching trousers, or a jumper and skirt combo, these sets ensure you can effortlessly transition from a casual day indoors to a quick outing without sacrificing style. The soft textured, cosy lounge wear sets have become a must-have in every winter wardrobe, providing the perfect mix of fashion-forwardness and snug warmth during the colder months.

Knee-length boots
Knee-length boots came back with a big bang this time last year. There are so many ways you can play into this trend no matter what your own personal style is. Chunky flat boots in black or cream have been popular choices for everyday wear, while stiletto black leather boots are a great choice to dress up a look. For something in between, the thick block heel sock boot style has been making a resurgence.

Don’t be afraid and stick to black with these boots either, there’s some great coloured boots on the market to really spice up your looks.

Dark florals
Just because summer is over doesn’t mean it’s time to pack away all your florals. One look we can be expecting to see a lot of this year is dark florals. This is a great way to transition into your winter wardrobe in November without going into those fully dark wintery tones too quickly.

Long style maxi and midi dresses with darker floral prints paired with boots and tights is a look we are expecting to see a lot of in winter 2023. There’s so much choice when it comes to patterned clothing like this, whether you go all out with an all-over print on a dress or opt for a subtle nod to the trend with a floral top.

Big scarves
Oversized scarves have emerged as the ultimate accessory to elevate a style while also keeping warm. Embracing a luxurious blend of fashion and functionality, these big scarves make bold statement on the chilly streets and allow for versatile styling options – whether casually draped over shoulders, wrapped around the neck for added insulation, or even used as a makeshift shawl for an extra layer of comfort. Fashion enthusiasts are gravitating towards these statement pieces not only for their practicality but also for the touch of glamour they bring to winter outfits.
