LIMERICK will soon hear the tones of a well-known voice on the local airwaves with the announcement that a former RTÉ star will broadcast a show here.
Ex-RTÉ star Ryan Tubridy will have a show broadcast in syndication on Limerick’s Live 95, following confirmation that he has just joined Virgin Radio as a presenter.
Tubridy will helm the mid-morning show on Virgin from 10am to 1pm, from Monday to Friday, starting in January 2024.
He will also present a dedicated Irish weekend show that will be broadcast across the Wireless Network of radio stations, including Limerick’s Live 95 and Cork’s 96fm.
The former RTÉ star left the national broadcaster earlier this year following a widely reported controversy over payments made to him that weren’t disclosed by RTÉ.
Tubidy joined Virgin host Chris Evans on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show in London to confirm the news.
“This is quite surreal, I’m desperately excited,” Tubridy told Evans, who he joined live in studio in London.
In a statement, Mr Tubridy said: “I couldn’t be more excited to start this new chapter with Virgin Radio. New city, new station, new beginnings. I love radio and what a joy to be following the legendary Chris Evans every morning,” confirming the broadcaster’s move to London.
“It’s been a pleasure getting to know my new friends at Virgin Radio, all of whom have been warm, engaging and very entertaining.”
“And big thanks to the London Irish who have made me feel so welcome in recent weeks,” he concluded.
Tubridy’s new slot on Live 95 will begin broadcasting from January 2024.
