THE interest of Newcastle West, three-in-a-row Limerick winners, the Munster Senior Football Championship was cut short by Clonmel Commercials at Semple Stadium, Thurles.
In the weekend opening round, the Tipperary representatives progressed, 2-7 to 0-6.
It was apparent that the fixture clearly arrived too soon for NCW, after the historic achievement of only a week earlier.
Adrift for most of the journey, some highlights for NCW came through impressive points from county final man-of-the-match Eoin Hurley, Bryan Nix and Emmet Rigter.
For Limerick, only Thomond College (1977) and Dromcollogher/Broadford (2008) have ever won the Munster Senior Club Football Championship.
