GARDAÍ in Limerick this morning arrested a man in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that resulted in the death of University of Limerick student Joe Drennan on October 13.

A statement from An Garda Síochána said that a man “in his late teens” was arrested “in relation to the fatal road traffic collision on the Dublin Road in Castletroy, County Limerick, on the 13th October 2023, which resulted in the death of a man in his 20s”.

The teen is currently being held at a Garda station in Limerick City under Section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1999.

“Investigations are ongoing,” a Garda spokesman said.

Award-winning journalism student Joe Drennan, from Knocknagad, Mounthrath, County Laois, was killed on October 13 while he was waiting at a bus stop on the Dublin Road when a car that had immediately beforehand been involved in a collision with another car, as well as an alleged interaction with Gardaí earlier on the night, struck him.
