Funeral details announced for Limerick assault victim

The late Ger Curtain will be laid to rest on Wednesday (November 8).

A father-of-two who died from injuries sustained in an alleged assault in the city last week will be laid to rest on Wednesday (November 8).

Ger Curtin, 42, Spit Land, Railway House, Old Cork Road, died after being allegedly assaulted at a house on Sarsfield Avenue, Garryowen.

Gardaí responding to an alert of an incident at the house in the early hours of last Saturday, discovered Mr Curtin’s body in the front drive of the property, when they arrived there at around 5am.

A post mortem was carried out by the State Pathologist, however investigating Gardaí said they were not releasing results of the autopsy for “operational reasons”.

Mr Curtin was known to Gardaí and had a number of convictions for burglary and theft, mostly.

His remains will repose at Cross’s Funeral Home, Gerald Griffin Street, this evening (Tuesday, November 7) from 3pm to 5pm.

Ger’s funeral mass will take place at St John’s Cathedral, at 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Mr Curtin is survived by his parents Seamus and Helen, brothers and sisters, and his two children, Lee and Amber.

A man, charged in connection with Mr Curtin’s death, appeared before a special court sitting in Ennis last Sunday.

Joe Cahill, 44, Sarsfield Avenue, Garryowen, did not reply when charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Mr Curtin at Mr Cahill’s home address on November 4 last.

The charge is contrary to section 4 of the non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Mr Cahill again appeared before Limerick District Court last Tuesday via video-link, and was remanded in continuing custody.
