TWO men are due to appear before the Limerick District Court today charged in connection with an ongoing Garda operation targeting organised crime.
Gardaí confirmed today that the two men will appear before the District Court, sitting in Newcastle West, this afternoon (Saturday) shortly after 4pm.
The men were part of a wide sweep of arrests earlier this week, in which nine were detained by Gardaí, including five men, three women, and a juvenile.
The arrests came after Gardaí attached to the Limerick Crime Functional Area conducted a number of searches at locations in Limerick, Clare, and Cork. During the course of these searches, cash in excess of €11,310 was seized as well as approximately €53,100 of suspected cocaine, €20,000 of suspected cannabis, and €4,650 of suspected alprazolam and controlled medication tablets.
Four suspected firearms and ammunition were also seized.
A Garda spokesman said that a controlled explosion was carried out by the Army EOD Unit on a “suspicious device” found in a field in Limerick.
The spokesman added that investigations are still ongoing.
