ALMOST 90 new apartments could be delivered to Gerald Griffin Street if plans before Limerick City and County Council are approved.

Double EX Investments have applied to council planners to demolish a warehouse unit, existing residential units, along with other outbuildings on the site that sits on Lower Gerald Griffin Street and Little Gerald Griffin Street and build 85 new apartments in their place, along with commercial units.

The apartments would be spread over four separate blocks, ranging from three to eight storeys in height.

The development would consist of five studio apartments, 37 one-bedroom units, 37 two-bedroom units, and six three-bedroom apartments, spread across the four blocks.

Each apartment in the development would be equipped with individual balconies and terraces.

32 car parking spaces, including six electric vehicle charging spaces would be provided, along with 180 bicycle spaces.

Two commercial units, as well as a creché would be developed as part of the plans.

The developer also currently owns another block of apartments on Lower Gerald Griffin Street, with numbers 20 and 21 having been developed back in 2003.

This block was originally built to house student accommodation, but had its use changed in 2008 to offer 15 residential apartments.

Limerick City and County Council planners are due to make a decision on the potential development of the 85 new apartments by December.
