THE Irish Chamber Orchestra and Principal Conductor & Artistic Partner Thomas Zehetmair bring an exploratory journey of Schubert favourites to University Concert Hall on Friday November 17.
Schubert’s darkly romantic composition, “Death and the Maiden,” stands at the core of this emotionally charged program, exuding a captivating pathos that has resonated with hearts for centuries. Overflowing with emotion and drama, Schubert’s masterpiece will enthral the audience, showcasing his exceptional talent for both melody and songwriting even in the shadow of death.
“Delve into the scintillating youthful imagination of his Overture in C minor,” suggests Charlotte Eglington (ICO’s Communications Manager)
Written when he was just fourteen, Schubert seems to conjure a heartache that existed in his childhood home, as well as savouring the glimpses of light and hope that radiate through the depths of sorrow in this magical work.
“Experience the beauty and passion of Lachrimae Antiquae, Dowland’s masterpiece, as performed by ICO. Six centuries later, this dreamlike work still endures.”
Air and Dance by Delius is a simple, lyrical piece while Debussy’s shimmering and sensuous Danse Sacrée et danse profane, is one of the finest works for harp and strings, performed by Aisling Ennis.
These works bookend Crawford Seeger’s breathtaking Andante for Strings, a triumph of musical imagination.
